Shogun 2 is set in 16th-century feudal Japan, in the aftermath of the Ōnin War during the Ashikaga shogunate. The country is fractured into rival clans led by local warlords, each fighting for control. The player takes on the management of one of these clans, with the goal of dominating other factions and establishing rule over Japan. The standard edition of the game features a total of eight factions (plus a ninth faction for the tutorial), each with a unique starting position and different political and military strengths. The limited edition includes an exclusive ninja clan, the Hattori, and a DLC unlocks a tenth clan, the Ikko-Ikki.[1][2]

The Eu/Au edition contained these as well as all but one of the downloadable content packs (Dragon War Battle, Hattori Clan, Ikko Ikki Clan, Otomo Clan, Saga Clan, Obama Clan, Tsu Clan, Sendai Clan, Saints & Heroes Elite Unit and Sengoku Jidai Elite Unit packs but not the Blood Pack). The Eu/Au version also came in a gold and black wajima-nuri inspired folding case unlike the standard case for the North American version.[15][16][17]
If you can just give me some advice what settings in DxWnd I can try I already be very happy. Since the Steam version is not that different from the CD version. I can run the Steam version without Steam. Btw Shogun Total War 1 gold edition is made with the same engine and works well.
1) i have DXWnd version 2.03.84.fx1 and i am on windows 7 64. i do not have the steam version, i have a really old cd with shogun warlord edition and i managed to make it work in window mode. i didn't make any changes anywhere, entered game path and just put my desired resolution ticked 'keep aspect ratio' and 'desktop center' and on the direct X "emulation primary surface". the only problem with this is that if you want to command battles the game will crash. everything else works including movies.
if emulation isnt set to none i get "Unable to initialize Direct 3D. Please ensure that your graphic card meets minium acceleration specifications and retry"when i set to none same thing it changes my color to 16bit and disables aero. must be something with my PC or specs. edit: tried it on shogun total war as well, still same thing
